Reliance Aqua-Tainer 7G/26L (#9410-03R)

The Aqua-Tainer 7G/26L (#9410-03R) is a manufacturer-described food-safe, BPA-free, PFAS-free self-fill container with a hideaway spigot. It weighs 2 lb empty, but about 60 lb when filled; Reliance says to stack it only when empty.

Is it right for your household?

Where it fits

Households that need a larger self-filled reservoir and can keep it low, stable, accessible, and protected from contamination.

When to consider another option

Frequent carrying of a full container or a storage plan that depends on stacking filled Aqua-Tainers.

More fit considerations

Other situations to consider

  • A dispensing setup where the reverse-storing hideaway spigot and vent cap are useful.
  • Readers able to check floor or shelf loading and safely handle or dispense a roughly 60 lb full container.

Other reasons to choose a different setup

  • A location without a verified load-bearing surface or a way to control leaks and keep the outlet clean.
  • A product whose exact container material, independent certification, or supplier documents have not been checked when those details are required.

Confirm the 7-gallon model and listed food-contact claims

Reliance lists Aqua-Tainer in 4G and 7G versions; this entry covers only 7G/26L model #9410-03R. The company describes it as food-safe, LFGB certified, FDA compliant, BPA-free, and PFAS-free. The product page says plastic but does not identify the polymer type. Confirm that the selected variant remains #9410-03R before relying on the 7-gallon size or dimensions.

Treat seven gallons as a heavy load

The 7G model is listed at 11.50 × 11.25 × 15.75 inches and 2 lb empty. Seven gallons of water add about 58.4 lb using the USGS approximate 8.34 lb per gallon, for roughly 60.4 lb before variation in water density. This estimate is not a safe lifting limit or shelf rating. Keep filled water low and use a verified floor or platform; plan for people who cannot lift the full container.

Use the spigot carefully and never stack it full

The hideaway spigot reverses for damage-free storage, and the screw-on vent cap supports dispensing. Reliance says the Aqua-Tainer can be stacked only when empty. Keep the outlet protected, test for leaks before storing, and do not let a shelf, another container, or nearby equipment bear against the spigot. Plan where to fill and dispense it before handling a full container.

Keep CDC sanitation separate from maker cleaning advice

For a self-filled emergency supply, follow CDC's linked procedure to clean and sanitize the empty container before filling it with clean water. The sanitizer solution is for container preparation; it is not a treatment formula for unsafe drinking water. Reliance separately suggests baking-soda rinses between uses and says vinegar or bleach may be used as a cleaner, never together, followed by rinsing and drying. These are distinct instructions for different purposes; do not combine the recipes. Reliance advises changing stored water at least every 90 days, while CDC's general home-filled-water guidance says every six months. Keep CDC as the public-health standard and identify the shorter interval as Reliance's product-care recommendation.
